The Christmas holiday is around the corner and the roads will be filled with people travelling home or to their holiday destinations. It’s always a good idea to make sure your vehicle is in tip-top shape to ensure your safety and that of others on the road.
Ensure your battery is working. Check that the terminals are clean. If they have a powder on them it means acid is leaking and it needs to be changed. The life of a battery is 3 to 6 years so if you know your battery is older than 4 years it’s wise to change it.
Check your oil regularly. You can stop at any service station and they will do this for you. They will open the hood and pull out the engine dipstick. Wipe it with a clean rag and put it back in fully. Pull it out again and check the level if it is not on full or close to the full mark, you need to add more engine oil. Take care not to overfill the oil as this may cause leaks.
Ask a friend or family member to help you check if your indicators, park lights and brake lights are all working. If you are towing a trailer or caravan, make sure all the electronics are connected and working properly. Most service centres will be having specials on re-gassing aircons during summer, so take advantage of that.
Ensure that the tyre pressure is accurate. It’s usually written somewhere on the interior of the vehicle. Check that you have a spare wheel, and the equipment needed to change it if you get a flat. Another important thing is to know how to change the tyre. What good is having all the material and not being able to use it.
It’s dangerous to be stranded on the side of the road.
Book your car in for service at Kempster Ford Randburg and stay safe.

We all witnessed the horrible storm that happened in Durban on Tuesday 10 October 2017, leaving many of the City’s residents homeless after the strong winds gashed down their homes and destroyed all their belongings.
At Kempster Ford Umhlanga, together with Ford South Africa Wildlife, we decided to give a little bit back to the community, by offering assistance and showing support by donating food parcels to St Martins, a children’s home that was affected badly by the storm.
Joining in was the official brand ambassador for the Ford Wildlife Foundation, Gabriel Sithole, a popular South African radio presenter, photographer and wildlife conservationist. When we arrived at St Martins the staff welcomed us and accepted the food parcels. I must say it was a heart-warming moment to see the appreciation on their faces. We would like to thank everyone else who donated not only to the home but also to any other areas that needed assistance after this tragic event occurred.
We would also like to thank our Dealer Principal, Mr Clive Wainright, who made all of this possible. It’s always a pleasure to give back to the community, giving a helping hand is what we do best at CMH Kempster Ford Umhlanga.

There is very little risk when purchasing new, as you can almost be certain that there will be no damage, and that the vehicle was never involved in an accident.
Most brands sell their vehicles standard with a factory warranty and in most cases, service plans included.
The only negative is that a new car usually costs a lot more, and you can be assured that the initial depreciation in value will be quite significant.
On the other hand, you can get much more bang for your buck when purchasing a used car, and most of the major initial depreciation already occurred. But how do I know if I am buying a properly looked-after vehicle?
There are things to look out for when buying a second-hand vehicle. From the outside, it would be noticeable damage.
This can come in many shapes and sizes. Keep an eye out for mismatched paint, abnormal panel gaps and new lights and lenses that don’t match the others – these are indicators of past accident damage.
Another must is to check the service history. A car that has been well-maintained and serviced on a regular basis will have a higher value than those that are not cared for.
Another must is the mileage. If a vehicle is in good condition but has high mileage, it should set off alarm bells and the same goes for older cars with very low mileage that shows the aforementioned signs of wear and tear.
Whether buying new or used, most important is that you feel satisfied with the purchase you made and that the vehicle suits your individual needs.
With all the incredible and unique vehicles we have to offer from used to new, you will definitely find something that will suit your lifestyle, needs and budget. We also have various finance options available and the best sales executives to ensure that your overall purchasing experience at CMH Ford Pretoria North is a satisfactory one.

Nkululeko: My favourite vehicle is the Ford Ranger Wildtrak. I would have to say the reason for this specific vehicle is the power it has. It is ideal for travelling on and off road. You have no trouble or hassle and this vehicle takes me to any destination I need to go in pure comfort.

CMH Kempster Ford Pretoria North was proud to sponsor hole 1 on the 8th of September 2017 at the Akasia Country Club and it turned out to be one of the most outstanding days worth remembering for this year.
We had such a magnificent day full of fun in the sun, laughter, good times and a good day of golfing. Meeting new clients and making sure everybody was having a fantastic day was our top priority. Players stopped by to get free drinks and snacks where we also had the opportunity to showcase some of our newest models.
The players also stood a chance to win a prize by completing their names in a draw and the lucky winner was announced the following Monday. Congratulations Mr Potgieter on winning the lucky draw we hope that you will enjoy your Ford hamper and thank you to everyone who took the time to participate in our competition.
Throughout all the fun and games we also had the chance to sell our irresistible race red Ford Mustang to one of the players. Our CMH Ford team would just like to congratulate the friendliest, most down to earth and spontaneous Mr. Becker. It was such a pleasure doing business with you and we hope that you will enjoy lots of miles and smiles in your brand new Mustang. May your new car take you to new places with incredible people and open up new opportunities in your life.
Most of us choose our career based on what we studied at school not necessarily what we enjoy doing. It was no different for a Keynes Mdaka a young man fresh from university armed with a financial degree he embarked on a career as a Pension Fund Manager at one of the top financial institutions in the country based in Sandton.
Meet Keynes New Car Sales Manager at Cmh Kempster Ford in Randburg. He is a family man that enjoys adventure sports such as bunjee jumping and just about any water sport that involves adrenalin and speed.
Keynes began his career in 2001 but only joined the motor industry in 2007. He happened to go into a dealership across from his workplace in search of a new vehicle when he had a light bulb moment. The sales consultant helping him at the time was friendly and seem to be enjoying her job so much he decided at that moment that is what he wanted to do. Fast forward to a few months down the line, he resigned from his job in the financial sector and became a salesman selling cars.
In 2014 Keynes joined the CMH Kempster Ford Randburg family as a new vehicles salesman. He won several accolades such as Salesman of the month. In July of 2017 the position of Sales Manager for new cars department opened up and he stepped up for the role. He says mentorship from the previous manager played a vital role in his personal developments which lead him to become Sales Manager. He aspires to mentor other future managers. He also fully intends to work toward becoming Dealer Principle and eventually move to the CMH head office.
“The core of the business is sales and you have to keep a clear goal of meeting targets” Keynes Mdaka

Dezzi Raceway is set in the rolling hills of the South coast and just 10 minutes’ drive from Port Shepstone, the 2.5 Km track is a superb mix of tight, technical corners, blind rises and elevation changes-a challenging proposition for cars, and especially bikes with quick directional changes a must for setting a good lap time.
The actions starts early on a Saturday morning with a drivers briefing at 7.00 am. For the spectators, there is a class of racing to suit all tastes from four wheels to two wheels.
All the racers dangerously taking to the road to employ their races.
CMH Ford has a Focus ST that is the pace car that dutifully leads all entrants on their customary warm-up laps, racers compete over course of 10 laps with a variety of different classes filling up the day.
The excitement of walking around mingling with the racers and their helpers, and all working on the cars and bikes, then watch them drive on the track, such an awesome experience. If anybody wants to take a short drive on a weekend and spend a lovely day in the sun, we would recommend spending the day at Dezzi Raceway

A new vehicle is way more than just a ride as it represents your lifestyle, personality and personal taste. There are several ways to personalise your vehicle to make it stand out, and make it uniquely “you”, which will make it fit you like a glove, and really meet your individual needs.
Here’s what you should keep in mind when customising your vehicle: If reselling your vehicle, will a large group of buyers be interested in the “upgrade”? Remember that a potential buyer will only pay for what they need/want, so a good rule is not to overdo it. By keeping it relevant and simple you open up a larger pool of potential future buyers.
Spend wisely when adding expensive equipment to a vehicle as it will not necessarily increase its value. Many vehicle owners think they will be able to get back the costs of after-market products they have installed at the time of resale, only to be disappointed when a potential buyer isn’t willing to pay for the accessories or extras.
You can never go wrong with factory fitted extras, as it will definitely add more value to your vehicle, and extras like rubberising and smash and grab will never count against you.
Accessories like nudge bars, roll bars, and mags can enhance the general look of the vehicle, and should make the dealer/buyer more inclined to pay more for the vehicle.
Personalising your vehicle to your own taste in the sense of special paint colour or personalized decals, lowered suspension, performance enhanced engines, and modified exhaust systems is a big no-no, as everybody hasn’t got the same personal taste.
Before adding extras or accessories:
Firstly consult with your dealer to check if any modification will void the warranty in any way (if your vehicle is still under warranty).
Make sure that your insurance conditions remain intact or if any addendum is required when adding it to your current insurance.
We at CMH Kempster Ford Pretoria North have a full range of genuine Ford parts as well as a wide range of Ford approved accessories and would love to help you customise your vehicle to add a bit more style and value.
1: Move your vehicle to a flat spot, the vehicle in an angle will damage the axle, make sure there is no one in the vehicle.
2: Apply the triangle 45 Meters of your vehicle to make other motor vehicles aware.
3: Remove the jack from the boot of the vehicle and place it in the right spot of the vehicle
Start to crank the vehicle all the way until it touches the bottom of your vehicle, make sure you do not lift the vehicle off the ground at this point.
4: Take your wheel spanner to loosen the nuts on the tyre , it works out much more easier to loosen the nuts while the wheel is touching the ground, turn each nut clockwise, loosen one nut as time but do not take the nut off completely , leave them on the vehicle with a few turns to remove it completely off.
5: Use the jack to lift the side you need of the vehicle off the ground.
6: Remove the nuts completely off the wheel and replace it with the spare tyre on the vehicle.
7: Gently apply the nuts back onto the vehicle whilst it is still in the air, make sure the nuts are not tightened, just tight enough to hold the tyre in place and make sure it is stable.
8: Lower the jack making your vehicle sit on the ground.
9: Tighten your nuts on the tyre back to the way it was when you first removed it, ensure you do this in a clockwise direction as you done before, make sure you do each nut one at a time to ensure it is done correctly and tight.
Once all is done be sure to put everything away you have used and head onto your destination as planned.
Be safe when travelling and always be prepared for any sticky situation and make sure you teach everyone in the household how to change a tyre in case of a serious emergency.

When buying a vehicle, new or a pre-owned, the most important aspects to take into consideration is the service plan, maintenance plan and warranty of the car you intend to buy. Another important thing is the length of these plans and this will suit each individual accordingly. It is also important to know the differences, especially between a service and maintenance plan.
Service Plan
A service plan gives you complete peace of mind and covers the cost of the routine servicing as stipulated in the manufacturer’s service schedule so you don’t have to worry about yearly cost increases as your servicing costs are fixed and provided for you. Your vehicle will be serviced at manufacturer’s approved dealer where genuine parts are used and trusted technicians. Generally, this plan will include the labour and replacement costs of the air-, pollen-, fuel filter, spark plugs, fluids, coolant, consumables, cambelt, V-belts, tensioners and drive pulleys, coolant hoses and sump plug gasket accordingly by the manufacturer’s service schedule.
Maintenance Plan
A maintenance plan has more benefits than a service plan and will include typical wear and tear items like brake pads & linings, brake discs, wiper blades, batteries, clutch, rear wheel cylinder, fuses and globes, starter motor, alternator, suspension, window winder mechanisms, wheel bearings, CV joints etc. Basically, the maintenance covers items on your car that has a wear cycle and will need to be replaced at some point during the car’s lifespan so you can spend less time worrying about the costs of taking care and maintaining your vehicle which leaves you with more time enjoying the roads.
Ultimately when buying a vehicle it is important to be informed and to make sure that any future risk will be taken care off. In today’s busy life, we all aspire for convenience and that is the benefit of these plans, to make your life easier. We all want to know that we will be taken care off in the future and know that you will not have any stressful experience when it comes to services makes for a good night’s sleep.
To get a quote for a service, maintenance or warranty plan contact one of our financial managers here at CMH Kempster Ford Pretoria North on 012 404 9200 and they will gladly assist you.
