The world-class Ford Focus just got classier

Marketed originally as a “world car”, the Ford Focus was introduced in 2000 under the proviso that it was sold in the same form in all countries. Tipped to be remodelled in late 2010, it’s a top economy front-wheel drive with distinctive body types and excellent re-sale value, making it one of the most popular all-rounder cars for those seeking a small family vehicle for comfortable transportation.

Available from CMH Ford in the Focus Ambiente, Focus Si and new Focus ST models, these new cars have won some of the best safety ratings in their class – beating out such heavy contenders as the French and German automobile manufacturers to produce a range of incredibly safe family cars for everyday driving. A mixture of old and new engine technology has resulted in Ford carrying over only the most successful features and revising some of its engineering to create a truly dynamic all-aluminium engine lineup in the current Focus range.

Now honed for a wider spectrum of buyers, but retaining their well-developed suspension, steering and chassis systems, Ford Focus cars have been glossed up but remain just as exhilarating to drive as they always have. Contact CMH Ford on 0861 227 7467 for further enquiries into the successful new Focus range of cars.

The entry level Ford Focus Ambiente is available with 1.8-litre four-cylinder DOHC engines, with five-speed manual transmissions. Integrated driving dynamics are supported by new Electronic Power Assisted Steering, which provides the ultimate in responsiveness while reducing fuel consumption due to decreased load on the car’s electrical systems. Dynamic Cornering Control supports hard turning by aiding the inner front wheel - similar to the work of a limited slip differential. All in all, while the Ford Focus Ambiente has retained features from its past generation – such as the successful Control Blade Rear Suspension – it sports potent new driver aids that provide an exhilarating drive.

Not merely a power-packed speedster, the Focus Ambiente – which is available in Ford Focus sedan and Ford Focus hatchback trim types – is practical and roomy in its interior. Air-conditioning, radio and CD with MP3 capability, electric windows, cup holders, fold-down rear seats and adjustable steering accounts for driver and passenger comfort in this family-focussed vehicle. ISOfix bolts for child seats and child-proof rear door locks make for easy travelling with children, while dual front air-bags, Anti-lock Brake Systems (ABS), remote central locking, alarms and immobilisers create a safe environment for you and your family.

Providing sporty appeal in the Focus range, Focus Si cars are available in three model specifications: the Focus Si, Focus Si Auto and Ford Focus Powershift. The entry level Focus Si cars are equipped with 1.8-litre 16-valve Ford Duratec petrol engines with four-speed Sequential Sport Shift Automatic or five-speed manual transmissions, while the Focus Si Auto vehicles have 2.0-litre Ford Duratec engines, and the Powershift Focus cars have turbocharged 2.0-litre engines with manual and automatic transmission.

Available in Ford Focus sedan or Ford Focus hatchback, these Focus Si models have agile suspension that is responsive in part due to an advanced double-ball joint rear anti-roll bar, which supports these cars’ three-spoke sports steering wheels. Fine touches on the Ford Focus Powershift, such as mesh inserts on the instrument panel and door trims, as well as a rear roof spoiler and racy alloy wheels, create visual appeal.

Safety ratings are impressive in the Focus Si, which is equipped with driver, passenger and curtain airbags – totalling six – as well as Anti-lock Brake Systems and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), which automatically varies the amount of force applied to the Focus’s brakes in heavy stopping conditions. Comfort interior features include air-conditioning, electric power windows and mirrors, cup holders, rear seat split and USB ports with iPod connectivity.

The Ford Focus ST is refined to a “T” with precision engineering, driver quality and exterior style, making it one of the most “complete cars on the road today” (in the words of Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear). Its 2.5 in-line five-cylinder 20-valve Duratec engine provides turbocharged power; accelerating from zero to 100 kilometres per hour in just 6.8 seconds. A precise, sport-tuned suspension combined with an attractive, aerodynamic bumper creates that perfect balance of cruise control and hair-raising speed in this new Focus ST.

Available in three-door Ford Focus hatchback and five-door Ford Focus hatchback models, the Focus ST provides decent boot, luggage and legroom room, while the beltline is low, giving passengers an authentic sense of race-car driving. Inside the Ford Focus ST has eight-way adjustable Recaro sport seats, sport gauges that relay turbo boost, oil pressure and temperature readings, as well as amber-illuminated dial lighting that creates a racy finish throughout this high-performance vehicle.

Available in orange, white, black, blue, silver and, more recently, in brilliant green, the Ford Focus ST has ST badges, curved headlights and a honeycomb grille that set its exterior unmistakeably apart from the competition. Apparently designed with the objective of becoming the big brother to the Fiesta ST, this car fits the bill easily with its squat ride height, 18-inch alloy wheels, brand new headlights and chrome-tipped twin exhaust tailpipes, which growl at a satisfying pitch.

Built on successful suspension platforms and advanced engineering technology, new Focus cars have gained improvements in safety and interior comfort, making them some of the most reliable and racy new cars on the market. Athletic touches in Ford Focus cars such as three-spoke steering wheels, sport suspensions and aerodynamic rear bumpers make for adrenaline-packed driving. If you’d prefer something in the smaller Ford ranges, try value for money in the new Ford Fiesta. Alternatively, reduce your capital outlay by buying a reliable used Ford Focus from CMH Ford.
